About this YAML Formatter & Converter

The YAML Formatter and Converter formats and validates YAML with line-numbered errors, and converts between YAML and JSON in both directions. It is aimed at the config files that run modern projects: CI pipelines, Docker Compose, Kubernetes and application settings.

How to use the YAML Formatter & Converter

  1. Paste YAML (or JSON, which is detected automatically) into the input.
  2. Format it to fix the layout and surface any indentation errors with their line numbers.
  3. Convert to JSON when a tool needs JSON, then copy or download the result.

Good to know

  • YAML errors name the line, which matters because a single wrong indent can change what a config means.
  • Block scalars for long strings and scripts survive formatting, including their chomping markers.
  • Anchors and custom tags are reported as errors rather than silently misread.
