About this Base64
Base64 encodes and decodes Base64 in both directions, with correct UTF-8 handling so accented characters, emoji and other non-ASCII text survive the round trip. Useful for data URIs, basic auth headers, email content and the encoded strings that turn up inside JSON and tokens.
How to use the Base64
- Paste text to encode it, or paste Base64 to decode it back.
- Watch the result update, then copy it with one click.
- Switch direction any time; the tool keeps track of which side you edited.
Good to know
- Many quick decoders mangle UTF-8 text; this one decodes bytes as UTF-8, so café comes back as café.
- Base64 is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it, so never treat it as protection.
- A JWT is three Base64url segments joined by dots; decode the middle one here to peek at a payload.
