About this HTML Entity Encoder & Decoder

The HTML Entity Encoder and Decoder converts text to and from HTML entities in named, decimal and hex forms, plus a decode mode for reading entity-heavy markup. Use it when text must survive inside HTML or XML, or when a page shows & instead of the character you wrote.

How to use the HTML Entity Encoder & Decoder

  1. Paste the text you want to convert.
  2. Pick a mode: named entities, decimal, hex, or decode to turn entities back into characters.
  3. Copy the converted text straight into your markup or document.

Good to know

  • Encoding the five core characters (&, <, >, quotes) is what stops text from breaking a page layout.
  • Unknown entity names are left untouched instead of being silently dropped.
  • Decimal and hex modes cover characters that have no named entity.
