About this AES Encrypt / Decrypt

AES Encrypt / Decrypt protects a piece of text with a password, using AES-256-GCM with a PBKDF2 key derivation of 210000 iterations. Use it to share a note, a key or a credential through an untrusted channel: the ciphertext is safe to send, and only the password can open it.

How to use the AES Encrypt / Decrypt

  1. Type or paste the text you want to protect, and set a strong password.
  2. Click Encrypt and copy the resulting ciphertext block.
  3. To open it later, paste the ciphertext, enter the same password, and click Decrypt.

Good to know

  • AES-GCM is authenticated encryption: a wrong password or a changed byte fails cleanly instead of returning garbage.
  • The password is never stored or transmitted; lose it and the text cannot be recovered.
  • Each encryption uses a fresh random salt and IV, so encrypting the same text twice gives different output.
