About this Hash Generator
The Hash Generator computes MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 digests for text and files, plus HMAC when you supply a key. It is the quick way to verify a download checksum, fingerprint a file before sharing it, or check what a value looks like after hashing.
How to use the Hash Generator
- Type or paste text, or drop a file onto the panel.
- Read the digests for every algorithm at once and copy the one you need.
- For HMAC, enter a key first, then the message.
Good to know
- File hashing reads the file in your browser; the file itself is never uploaded.
- MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for checksums and fingerprints, but not for passwords or signatures.
- Comparing a computed SHA-256 with the one a vendor publishes is the standard way to verify a download.
