About this JSON Minifier
Pretty JSON is for people; minified JSON is for machines. Minifying strips indentation and line breaks so the same data takes the least space in a config value, a database field, a cookie or a request body. This minifier validates while it works, so invalid JSON fails loudly here instead of breaking somewhere downstream.
How to use the JSON Minifier
- Paste your formatted JSON into the input panel (a sample is already loaded).
- Click Minify and compare the character counts.
- Copy the compact result wherever it needs to go.
Good to know
- The data itself never changes: only whitespace between tokens is removed.
- Invalid JSON is rejected with the error position, not silently mangled.
- Runs locally in your browser, so payloads with private data stay private.
Frequently asked questions
Does minifying change my data?
No. Keys, values, order and types are all preserved exactly. Only the spaces, tabs and newlines that exist for human readers are removed.
When should I minify JSON?
When it is stored or transported rather than read: environment variables, database JSON columns, local storage, embedded configs and request bodies where size matters.
What if my JSON has an error in it?
You will see the parser error and its position instead of a minified file. Fix that spot (trailing commas are the usual suspect) and minify again.
